Holiday period in winter Lviv lasts about a month between the day of St. Nicholas and the Epiphany. From December 19 to January 19 the city burns with multi-colored fires, smells of Christmas pastries and hot wine. We will tell you what to do in the Christmas capital of Galicia.
Walk around the city
The historical center of Lviv is included in the World Heritage of UNESCO, and the city manages to preserve its unique appearance and atmosphere. By Christmas, the facades and windows are decorated with New Year’s lights and garlands and it is possible to meet a den on the street. Even people who are not particularly prone to the so-called festive mood will be glad of walking by the elegant city.
Walking across snow-covered Lviv, you will definitely stumble upon one of the holiday festivals. There won’t be enough fingers of two hands to count all Christmas festivities which take place in the city during this period. The most important festivity is — the Christmas fair at Rynok Square where it is possible to buy souvenirs, street food, clothes and handmades. In January in the Dominican church there takes place the festival of Christmas carols. Being in the center, don’t forget to rise by a roof of the Town hall or by the observation deck on the High castle to get a bird’s eye view of Lviv.
If you were lucky to escape for several days without work computer — congratulations, go for a walk and don’t worry about anything. If you need to work and it will be impossible for any reason in the hotels/apartments, Communa coworking situated on the Rynok Square will save you. From the big windows opens a beautiful view to the festive city and you can work sitting directly on the windowsill. Don’t forget that in Svyatvecher on January 6 in Lviv it is possible only to have a rest , because most of the institutions and offices are closed.
Have a good meal and drink
Lviv isn’t only an ancient architectural ensemble without plastic balconies, but also the whole galaxy of truly legendary art places and restaurants. At least it is worth to visit cultural center “Dziga” which located on the Armenian district, drink their branded liquors and look at the actual exhibition. In “Tsukerna” it is possible to eat a classical Lviv strudel with apple.
For a cup of fruit liquor, “banush” and “zavivantsya” come into “Bachevsky” restaurant, for craft beer and sausages – come into the restaurant-brewery ‘Kumpel”. And there is also “Atlyas” with excellent steaks of medium rare, “Shampaneriya” with hot dogs and “Poshta” with a wide choice of paste of own preparation.
To visit Lviv and not to drink local roast coffee is like to visit New York and never get lost in the subway. All coffee competitions and Facebook experts praise “Svit kavi”, “Palyarnyu Chekhovich” and “Virmenka”. Delicious coffee, but not local rost is in Black Honey and “Alternativniy kavi”.
For tasty wine to family dinner or for original present for connoisseurs of good alcohol, try to visit to the wine library Enoteca Lviv. Wine store with a chamber tasting room is located in the city center and pleases with a large selection of wine and strong drinks, from semisweet Californian wine to single malt whiskey. You can take bought bottle with yourself or taste it sitting on the soft velvet armchairs in the tasting room.
For holidays in Lviv’s institutions offers special menu with special dishes. It is impossible to stay hungry or sober under any circumstances.
